Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride to Host Livestrong Hope Ride and Challenge Run

The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride proudly announces we will be the host of the 2011 Hope Ride and Challenge Run benefiting the Lance Armstrong Foundation. This event will take place on October 2nd, 2011 at Arasapha Farm, in Gradyville, PA. Bates Motel will be the starting line and finish line for the bike ride, with a distance of your choice. The Challenge Run will start at the entrance to our famous Haunted Corn Maze. Runners will have to navigate the huge maze, with all the scary obstacles, then run through the Haunted Hayride trail. After leaving the hayride trail, the course will take you over the rolling hills of Arasapha Farm, and past the Christmas tree stands. The run will finish back where it started, just outside the infamous Bates Motel. Food and drinks will be available along with a great picnic area where you can relax with friends and family.

The festival for National Armstrong Day will open at 10:00 AM with family games, challenges, costume contests, crafts, and other family fun activities. Contact Ashley Spurlock at spurlocka@comcast.net for more information and registration.

Our fire-eater on the roof of the gift shop at the Bates Motel

The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride website has been totally revamped. Our webmaster at Rogues Hollow has added imbedded video and a new menu bar that really rocks. All the new information for the 2011 season is on the site and the online ticket sales button is now turned on. Keep checking back as we will be adding more scary videos and photos from past seasons. We will also be adding a “sneak preview” page with info and photos of new sets and props that the hauntmasters at Arasapha Farm are working on this summer. Let us know how you like the new website and any suggestions for improvement that you would like to see. Check out www.thebatesmotel.com to see one of the scariest haunted attractions in the country.

Amazingly Scary Pyro

Last year the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride added some new toys to our inventory of terrifying monsters, props and sets. Jeff Cox, who owns a film special effects company, built two flame explosion units for our show. One is located in our haunted hayride, and the other was mounted on the roof of the Bates Motel. Here’s a shot of the one on our haunted house. Keep an eye out for more updates about America’s favorite haunted attraction!

Makeup Wars

The makeup crew at the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride have been meeting every Saturday to practice makeup techniques and design new characters that will make this attraction the scariest in the region. Shawn and Cosimo are leading the way and teaching some of our best actors how to apply their own makeup and prosthetics. Our goal this year is to incorporate Hollywood-quality special FX and makeup so our Haunted House and Hayride will be as original as possible. Take a look at some of the work they have done.

New Haunted Hayride Scene

Here is a sneak peak at what will be our newest scene at the Arasapha Farms’ Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride. It’s a 30′ x 50′ drive through barn filled with amazing, scary animatronics and live actors that is guaranteed to strike fear in all who enter. We added a 40′ long conveyor that will hold about 30 bodies and will surround the wagons as they pass through. This scene is just one of the new sets being designed and built at Arasapha Farm for the Halloween season in 2011. Stay tuned for more shots and videos of this amazing, scary ride.

Behind the scenes at the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride

Welcome to the official blog for the The Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride. Last year we had one of our best seasons ever. In fact, NBC’s Mike Tiberi called it “the most elaborate Halloween Haunted Attraction in America” during his interview with us last October. Clearly if you are looking for sheer fear, this is the place to go! And we are looking forward to another great season in 2011, with new scary props, huge sets and monsters. Our Haunted Hayride is getting a makeover with a new trail section and three new sets that will be sure to strike fear in the hearts and souls of our customers! Stay tuned for a sneak preview of these new sets. But to make the season jam packed with things that make our customers scream and come back for more…a lot goes into our haunt all year round.

With just over 6 months left to opening night, the Bates Motel and Haunted Hayride construction is going full speed ahead! We have a crew of 12 construction experts working full time upgrading the infrastructure in the hayride trail, and adding new scary scenes to the haunted corn maze. Along with a new pond filled with monsters, this scary maze will also resurrect the infamous “clown show” that is guaranteed to strike fear in the bravest of people. We try hard to make this the top Halloween event on the east coast. Let us know what you think is scary; post a comment below with ideas and maybe you will see it come to life in October!
